We previously discussed the importance of doors in our home life in our last blog post. Today, we will go into detail about the features of secure doors.
Are You Buying a Steel Door or a Secure Steel Door?
You cannot expect an insecure steel door to keep your home truly safe.
If you have a limited budget and your goal is simply to purchase any steel door, you may opt for thin-sheet, inexpensive steel doors.
However, if your primary concern is security, the steel door you choose must be custom-made, constructed with thick steel, and reinforced on the lock side.
Essential Features of a Good Steel Door
Steel doors are designed to offer high security measures and enhanced durability.
While steel doors were once seen as a luxury that increased a home’s aesthetic appeal and value, we have all come to realize that they are now a necessity.
Steel doors are reinforced structures made of steel plates and sheets. A properly manufactured steel door becomes nearly impossible to force open from the outside.
For a steel door to effectively keep you safe, it must meet the following criteria:
• It must comply with standard measurements.
• It should meet manufacturing standards.
• Its installation must be done according to proper mounting guidelines.
To summarize, a high-quality steel door should have the following features:
• The frame steel thickness should be at least 2 mm, and the door leaf steel thickness should be at least 1.5 – 2 mm.
• Lock reinforcements should be strengthened to prevent external interference.
• The lock cylinder (barrel) should be resistant to drilling.
• The door leaf thickness should be no less than 8 cm.
• The locking system should be from a well-known, high-quality brand.
• DKP steel should be used in manufacturing.
• The steel should be coated with electrostatic paint.
• The hinges should be made of stainless steel.
• The locking mechanism should be supported by fixed bolts.
• The peephole should have a wide-angle view.
• All external and internal accessories should be made of stainless steel.
• If the door surface is covered with wood, it should be at least 12 cm MDF.
• The seals used in the door leaf and frame should be made of EPDM.
• The door should be custom-made according to the location where it will be installed.
• The installation should be done correctly and leveled properly.
If the locks of the steel door you are purchasing are not protected by steel-armored lock cylinders, the door will not be as secure as you expect. This is because lock cylinders can be easily broken by burglars. The differences between well-secured and standard steel doors are often overlooked by buyers, but burglars can recognize them at first glance.
